Award winning filmmaker, JANICE ENGEL has consistently applied her diversified talents as an Executive Producer, Showrunner, Development Executive, Director, Writer and Editor to numerous, successful documentaries, non-fiction specials, television series and short formatted media for several production companies and networks including; Original Productions, Mark Burnett Productions, Shed Media, CBS, NBC, FOX, Discovery Channel, Disney Channel, History Channel, MCA-Universal, MTV, PBS, Showtime, SyFy, TLC, USA and VH-1,.

As a Showrunner Engel created a variety of series including the provocative embedded docu-series, Addicted, depicting the dramatic recovery and transformations of seven hardcore addicts. The series received a 2011 Prism Award for Accuracy in Depiction of Drug Addiction. In addition, she executive produced Plastic Surgery: Before And After making it the number one show for the Discovery Health Network for five seasons telling over 250 plus stories; and her Shania Twain Behind The Music achieved VH-1’s highest-rated show for the series and network.

After graduating from the USC School of Cinema and Television, Engel went on to create the critically acclaimed documentary specials; Motown On Showtime presents Marvin Gaye (nominated for a Cable Ace Award) and Let the Good Times Roll, a feature-length documentary on the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.  Her feature-length documentary Jackson Browne: Going Home won a Cable Ace Award and her documentary Ted Hawkins Amazing Grace was awarded a Rose D’Or Special Jury prize for the film that best reflected human values.

Under her own banner, Two Rivers Productions, Engel completed What We Carry an interactive and multi-platform documentary series designed for Holocaust survivors’ stories to live on after they are no longer able to present them in person. Screened to a full house at the Simon Wiesenthal’s Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, WWC is currently being used in the Norfolk, Virginia school system. The intention is to expand this into a platform that can be used as an educational tool throughout the US and eventually for all survivors of genocide globally.

Currently in the early stages of production, Engel is producing and directing a feature-length documentary on one of the most provocative, courageous and influential American journalists,  Raise Hell – The Life & Times of Molly Ivins. In addition she commits her time and talent to producing short-form media, promos, educational media, and public service ads for various organizations, non-profits and global awareness outreach.  She has been invited to speak at film school programs and is a member of the International Documentary Association and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Engel is the newly elected board President of LAMAG, the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery and sits on the board of The Open Sky Music Foundation, Inc.
